Expectations.
It is important to have expectations. It creates a basis of evaluation.
The following a list of expectations that I think are reasonable for the various positions of responsibility in Edwardsville.
As your Councilman I will strive to meet these expectations and hold others accountable to meet their expectations.

At the end of the list is what I expect from all development in Edwardsville.


Mayor  -  A strong ambassador for the city that unites the city departments, the employees of those departments and the citizens of Edwardsville to accomplish great things for fellow Kansans.

  1. Fair
  2. Honest
  3. Good communicator
    • Someone that can articulate issues and opportunities
  4. Team builder
    • Facilitate and encourage open and honest communication between elected and appointed officials and constituents
    • Facilitate making our community strong through strong community involvement
  5. Leadership
    • Lead by example and work to keep focused on the important issues
    • Promote an atmosphere of truth and honesty
  6. Visionary
    • Managing the inevitable growth to the betterment of the people and businesses of Edwardsville, the Kansas City metropolitan area and the state of Kansas
      • Thoughtfully planned
      • Timely
      • Orderly
      • Appropriate

City Council  -  A group of elected citizens that are:

  1. Respectful of their duties and their constituency
  2. Committed to do the best for the short and long-term welfare of the citizens of Edwardsville
  3. Capable of analyzing the complex issues and contracts
  4. Of strong moral character, with a high level of integrity
  5. Committed to working as a team, with the mayor, fellow council members, appointed authorities, and citizens for the betterment of Edwardsville

Police and fire - Departments that are made up of people that are:

  1. Respectful of citizens
    • Involved in the community
    • Act responsibly
    • True public servants
    • Putting the interests of the citizens above their own
  2. Respected by the citizens
    • Of strong moral character, with a high level of integrity
  3. Continually protecting the citizens from harm and upholding the laws of the city, state and country
  4. Appropriately compensated

 

City Hall  -  An office that serves the citizens of Edwardsville with respect and expediency

City Administrator  -  A servant of the city who:

  1. Respects the citizens of Edwardsville
  2. Of strong moral character, with a high level of integrity
  3. Makes wise and timely decisions
  4. Is a forthright positive leader of employees
  5. Communicates a consistent, clear and repeatable set of procedures for all activities of the city
  6. Is respected by developers

Planning and Zoning Commission  -  A solid group of people that care about the future of Edwardsville

  1. They should be involved very early in the process of proposed development to help keep Edwardsville on track for its goals
  2. Of strong moral character, with a high level of integrity

Development  -  Pro Progress – not development for development sake but development that sets the table for progress in Edwardsville

Progress that:
  1. Promotes family values
  2. Raises the revenue base for infrastructure growth
  3. Is consistent with strategic growth
    • Develop a strategic plan for the interstate corridors
    • Develop a strategic plan for single family dwellings
    • Develop a strategic plan for parks and recreational areas
  4. Enhances the marketability of the city for tourism and quality development
